CD Rom Drivers

CD Roms are generally plug and play devices. This means that all a user has to do is to connect the CD Rom to the right internal cables of the computer and the device would run perfectly. The drivers are normally built into the operating system and there’s no need to update drivers any time in the future either.

But that was before CD Roms had seen great updates and upgrades over time. Today, CD Roms are devices that are merely used to play your discs. Now, you can burn, write, and rewrite on a compatible disc and on DVD format at that. This is when cdrom driver download comes into the picture.

Cdrom device drivers are usually built-in into the operating system. This is necessary so that installation of the operating system becomes possible. However, the other functionalities of the cdrom drive such burning and decoding DVD’s will not be possible.

CD rom device drivers vary for every model and make. CD RW burners may need drivers different from a DVD +RW. If ever you need CD DVD driver download, it is best that you determine the actual model number of the device you have before proceeding with the download.

The CD print software download doesn’t come with the drivers either. If your CD rom has the ability to print into the CD itself for labeling, you are going to need two types of programs – the driver and the software to boost its functionality.

If in case you have changed your old CD Rom to a newer DVD +RW drive, it is best that you try to uninstall the drivers you are currently using before taking out the device altogether. To do that, turn on your computer and load your operating system. Under the Add/Remove hardware option on Control Panel, choose your old CD Rom and uninstall it. Turn off your computer and attach your new DVD +RW drive. If you have the manufacturer’s CD with you, run it right after your computer has successfully loaded.

Other than drivers, CD rom users should be wary about the firmware of their devices. Drivers and firmware are similar yet different in so many ways. Drivers used by Windows or the operating system to run a device. Firmware, on the other hand, is a list of codes built into the device itself so that it can run on its own, devoid of any operating system.

The firmware is the reason why a CD rom works even before you load Windows into your computer. A new firmware can be uploaded into the CD rom. But doing that is not really necessary. Updating firmware is not as frequently done as updating drivers. What’s more, firmware updates are only performed my expert computer hardware users.
