Windows Drivers

November 9th, 2008

The drivers for your computer should match the operating system or platform that you are running. This means that changing your operating system would require you to change the drivers of all the computer hardware installed on your computer as well. This is the biggest drawback of updating an operating system in favor of the newly released platforms. Some hardware does not have ready drivers for the newer OS versions. As such, they become unusable under that environment.

This is very true with Windows Vista. While there are many Windows Vista driver download available from the internet, some old hardware proves ineffective under this operating system. Given that fact, users would have no choice but to replace their hardware with something that would work for their new operating system.

Windows XP is still the widely used operating system these days. The only issue users are encountering with this platform is usually related to the newer LCD monitors being released today. To solve such issues, just go to the manufacturer’s website and download the Windows XP monitor driver that you need.

Other operating systems, such as the older Windows 98 software, may not see any driver updates anytime in the future. Most users of Windows 98 have shifted to other operating systems anyway so manufacturers rarely take time to release Windows 98 driver updates for their hardware. However, Windows 98 driver downloads are still being offered over the internet today.

The same is true for Windows NT drivers, which incidentally, is much older than Windows 98. The process of updating, repairing, restoring, and installing drivers under this platform is a little different from the usual steps applied to the later Windows program. If you still have this OS installed on your computer and would need to update some of the drivers for some reasons, it is advised that you read the detailed instructions on how to go about it first.

Windows drivers are offered for free over the internet these days, except maybe for the discontinued hardware coming from defunct hardware manufacturers. The most downloaded driver would be the Windows video driver while the least downloaded is the Windows CD Rom drivers. Users of Windows ME can also get their drivers from the same places. Windows ME driver download, although not much in demand as the Windows XP and the Windows Vista downloads, are easily available from the internet as well.
